Students Care Service (SCS) held our first flag day in more than a decade on 15 July 2017 and it was a successful COMMOTION!!

Intentionally held in July to coincide with Youth Day, we wanted to encourage volunteers to create “commotions in the streets” in a positive way. Commotions are often perceived negatively, and so does the term “at-risk”, often a label on the youths that we work with at SCS. We wanted to show the public that youths, given the right emotional support and encouragement, can also grow up to be positive adults who can contribute to the community.

And what a commotion it was! We had singers in Clementi, dancers in Yishun, Cosplayers in Hougang, and a Guitarist and Singer in Serangoon. Not only did they show off their talents, they also helped raise funds for our flag day. Along with more than 200 volunteers who appealed for donations from the public with our donation tins all over Singapore, more than $12,000 was raised during our SCS Flag Day 2017.

With other corporate and individual donations from our Adopt-a-tin campaign prior to the flag day, we have raised close to $20,000. Thank you to all who have support our SCS Flag Day 2017!
